The Green Cleaning Network

“Green Cleaning is a growing and important trend in schools, healthcare facilities, and many other industries across the United States today.  Green Cleaning products, technology, and resources are widely-available, effective, and cost-competitive, and the benefits of implementing a Green Cleaning program are significant.  Green Cleaning creates healthier buildings by reducing negative impacts of cleaning materials on the health of building occupants and workers, air quality, and the environment.   California’s supermarkets should lead the way to implement Green Cleaning policies, procedures, and training in their stores.”

Work Safe

http://www.worksafe.org/

“Worksafe is a California-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting occupational safety and health.   We are a coalition of labor and community groups, individual workers, occupational health and safety and other professionals, environmentalists and other interested persons. We focus on eliminating all types of workplace hazards and workplace-created toxic hazards that impact at-risk communities in California.

Currently, many supermarket janitors are using harsh conventional cleaning products that include toxic chemical compounds, without basic safety equipment or training.  In the face of these conditions, Work Safe urges supermarkets to consider and adopt the janitors’ proposals to implement “Green Cleaning” standards including environmentally-friendly cleaning chemicals and products, improved safety equipment and training, Worker Safety Committees, replacement of malfunctioning cleaning equipment, and the option for an industrial hygienist to evaluate safety conditions.”
